Rhodri Mears
I am a proud Welshman who has been living in Ireland since the summer of 2002. I have been fortunate to be given such a wonderful and valuable experience in schools in Wales, Canada and Ireland. These experiences has enabled me to work with and implement the Educate Together Ethos
My position as Principal is made ever easier by the quality of staff I have at the school. The dedicated and enthusiastic staff caters for the needs of all our pupils in this challenging and exciting project which is Midleton Educate Together National School.

As a young girl the proverb ‘Information is the most valuable commodity, not only to collect, but to pass on’ fascinated me.

I grew up in Carrigaline, loved school and also had a passion for drama and dance. This love of learning and the Arts carried me through secondary school and ultimately led me to University College Cork (B.A. European studies and French) and I obtained an honours Bachelor of Arts degree. My time in U.C.C. incorporated a year of study in Rennes University, France and I became a fluent French speaker.

Throughout college I continued my drama and dance studies and taught with the Cork Academy of Dramatic Art in their studios and in various primary and secondary schools. This combination confirmed my love of teaching children and encouraging them to realise their full potential. So I undertook a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick where I graduated with first class honours.

My first teaching position was in a close - knit, village school in Minane Bridge where professionalism and passion infused the principal, teachers, pupils and parents alike.

I feel privileged to be the first female teacher to join with the enthusiastic committee, principal, parents and pupils of Midleton Educate Together School.

It was during my teacher training in St. Patrick's College in Dublin that I first became aware of the distinct governing spirit or ethos of Educate Together schools. This ethos, which emphasises inclusivity, respect for individual identity and exploration of the different values and traditions of the world in which we live, appealed to me immediately.

I was keen to experience this teaching and learning environment for myself and felt very fortunate when I was given the opportunity to spend some time working in Gaelscoil An Ghoirt Alainn in Cork. From there, I moved to Cork Educate Together (formerly Cork School Project) where I spent five very happy and professionally enriching years working alongside a committed and vibrant staff and an enthusiastic parent body. Having spent my formative teaching years in these schools, I am delighted to now be involved at this earlier stage of development of an Educate Together school with all the excitement that that entails, and working alongside very committed people.

Prior to qualifying as a teacher, I completed a B.A. hons in French and Spanish (Language & Cultural Studies) in U.C.C. and enjoy a variety of pursuits in my free time including crochet and cricket.

As a Special Needs Assistant, I believe it is very important that every child be treated as an individual and be encouraged to reach their full potential. I support the ethos that we have to ‘Learn together to live together’.
I have always loved working with children. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1999.I have a great interest and enthusiasm for working with children with special needs. Through further training, I have had plenty of opportunity to develop this during the past ten years.
Before joining Midleton Educate Together National School, I worked as an SNA for eight years at Togher Girls National School, a city school with a great sense of community spirit.
I feel excited to be part of an enthusiastic school community such as Midleton Educate Together National School. I am looking forward to seeing the school expanding and growing from strength to strength in the future.

As the English Language teacher I feel it’s so important to celebrate every culture and embrace the ethos of educate together. After all we all “Smile in the same language”.

I am originally from Douglas and completed a Bachelor of Commerce in University College Cork. I spent all my spare time beach lifeguarding, pool lifeguarding and teaching swimming. This passion and love of teaching led me to complete a Higher Diploma in Primary Education. I graduated with a first class honours from Hibernia College where I enjoyed every minute.

My previous teaching experience has been with larger city schools however I love being part of such a growing school. My enthusiasm for teaching grows every day and I am honoured to be part of such an exciting, vibrant school.
